So Are You Curious? If you read my blogpost on Warren Buffett a few days ago, you benefitted from his 14 points of great wisdom. I promised to share my top 2 favorites. Here they are, and here’s why!
#1 Have IntegrityAt a 1998 lecture at the University of Florida School of Business, he asked the students in the audience to think of someone in their class who had the makings of success, such that the audience members would want to get 10 percent of that person’s earnings for the rest of their lives. “You would probably pick the one you responded the best to, the one who has the leadership qualities, the one who is able to get other people to carry out their interests,” said Buffett. “That would be the person who is generous, honest and who gave credit to other people for their own ideas,” — in short, the person who exhibited integrity.
Team, this is about being an honest person, through and through. And that doesn’t just mean expounding the truth. Integrity also means doing the right thing. If you are truthful, that can be just in words. If you show integrity, that means in actions. You not only state the truth, but live the truth.
#2 Be Nice“Be a nice person,” Buffett once advised a young MBA student. “It’s so simple that it’s almost too obvious to notice. Look around at the people you like. Isn’t it a logical assumption that if you like traits in other people, then other people would like you if you developed those same traits?”
Be nice, but be a real nice. This is genuine, sincere, kind, open, honest, simple care of others. There is nothing fawning, fake, need-to-get-something, need-to-have-a-nice-image, need-to-go-up-in-the-organization about it.
It’s just real.
You are who you are, and you take the time to care.
That’s not always easy in this busy world.
